Mission & Values
Welcome to REquipment Durable Medical Equipment & Assistive Technology Reuse Program, Inc.
Our goal is to assist elders and individuals with disabilities of all ages including veterans in accessing gently used durable medical equipment and assistive technology.
Our mission is to increase independence for the individual with a disability or elder through access to free refurbished durable medical equipment and assistive technology for home, community, school or work.
What we do
- We provide information about refurbished durable medical equipment in Massachusetts.
- We provide access to the REquipment database of available refurbished equipment. dmerequipment.org.
- We promote reuse and reuse programs.
- We collaborate with other organizations and government agencies concerned with the provision of durable medical equipment and assistive technology reuse.
This program is designed using the philosophical tenants of the Independent Living movement of consumer choice, consumer control and the right to fail. We believe the individual knows best what their needs are and how best to address them. We provide access to information to assist them in making an informed choice. Occasionally we do recommend that the individual consult with a professional for advice on selecting a more customized piece of equipment such as power wheelchair.
The program is not staffed with trained professionals and does not make recommendations on the equipment an individual should select. Should a piece of equipment not meet the individual’s needs once it is in the home it can be returned and another selected.
We also value the feedback we get from donors and equipment recipients alike to assist us in evaluating how we are doing and what we need to do better.
