REquipment, the durable medical equipment (DME) reuse program, is thrilled to announce that we now have a DME drop-off site in New Bedford! No longer will people need to drive their gently-used equipment to Canton or wait 3-4 weeks for our van to pick up from their homes. Donations at the Southeast Center for Independent Living (SCIL) can be arranged in a matter of days. SCIL is a natural partner for REquipment; its mission is to empower people with disabilities to achieve and maintain their independence, overcome obstacles, and participate fully in community life.
“We’ve already taken advantage of the drop-off site,” Jen Baker, our program director, reports. “We had a local Council on Aging offer to donate 20 manual wheelchairs and after we approved the donation, they were dropped off at the SCIL’s New Bedford office.”
Equipment donated at drop-off sites is collected monthly by REquipment for sanitizing and refurbishing. It is then posted online where it becomes available for no charge to individuals and families who need it.
Drop-off sites are great for both our program and program users. They cut down on the time it takes to collect equipment and that means our vans are used more efficiently for getting equipment to community members.
Donation drop-off must be pre-approved by REquipment program staff and then scheduled with SCIL staff. To donate equipment, please complete the online donation form or call 1-800-261-9841 for assistance.
