Hang onto your hat. This is pretty exciting.
REquipment’s partner, UCP of Western MA, is opening the AT Reuse Center in West Springfield to the public!
The grand opening will take place on October 16, beginning at 12:30, and the West Springfield location will remain open to the public, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. thereafter.
What does an AT Reuse Center mean for the community?
Finally, Massachusetts will have a place for users and explorers of assistive technology to come browse free, gently used AT devices available to take home! From tools for daily living, such as magnifiers and reacher-grabbers, to computer access equipment, such as switches and specialized keyboards, this will be an exciting space to check out.

Who should attend?
Anyone curious to explore, but especially individuals with disabilities of all ages and their families, including older adults and veterans. The event should also interest physical and occupational therapists, educators, caregivers, and other providers who work with people who can benefit from assistive technology.
“We are so happy to welcome the community of West Springfield and beyond,” says Jess Wiles, AT Reuse Program Coordinator, UCP of Western Mass. “We are going to have regular hours, and I’ll be available to meet individual community members, explain the reuse program, and show off what is currently available. Community members can see for themselves if a tool is useful for them.”
For the Grand Opening, UCP will also display examples of assistive technology devices available for borrowing through the Short-Term Device Loan program from the AT Regional Center in Pittsfield. And Permobil and Numotion will be on hand to talk about some of their exciting new equipment. Those details are still in the works, but the afternoon is already shaping up to be a celebration of assistive technology and access.
“We’re excited to welcome Mayor William Reichelt and members of the Commission on Disabilities,” adds Adriana Mallozzi, CEO, REquipment, Inc. “But most of all, we’re looking forward to realizing this dream of being a resource for free, gently used assistive tech in the community. It’s been two years since we added AT to REquipment’s reuse inventory, and a public-facing space is a logical next step.”
